This week, Ellyn Lichvar Johnson reminds us that all the big, public tragedies are also small and personal, plus Kevin Clark and Thomas Starr remember love both saved and lost. Kevin Clark's poem, "Scrim" is in the new issue of Artful Dodge. Thanks to them for letting us present it in audio.

In the after party, Amy Watkins encourages listeners not to feel overwhelmed by problems like world hunger, but to use what talents and resources they have to make a differences, however small. Listeners in the Orlando area can start by coming to a party: Arts Against Hunger is an event to support the UN's World Food Program. On September 18, 2010, painters, dancers, poets, potters and other central Florida artists will pool their talents (and throw a really fun party) to help the one in six people worldwide who are chronically hungry. Find more information about the event and how you can help, even if you're not in Orlando, here.

I hope I didn't come off as preachy in the after party. My point is the not-so-original idea that if we all do the little things we can, we can make a dent in the big problems we can't solve individually. Also, Arts Against Hunger is doing that in such a fantastic way! I hope those of you who can will pitch in.

Excellent new episode. Scrim was fantastic! Killer poems all around. Not preachy just motivating. Shocking how many go hungry in the richest nation in the world.
